Blueberry Mint Julep
Makes 1 serving
Ingredients
- 1 fresh mint leaf
- 2½ ounces bourbon
- 2 ounces Blueberry Mint Simple Syrup (recipe follows)
- Garnish: fresh mint leaves, Sugared Blueberries (recipe follows)
Instructions
- Muddle mint leaf in a julep glass. Top with crushed ice. Add bourbon and Blueberry Mint Simple Syrup. Garnish with mint and Sugared Blueberries, if desired.
Blueberry Mint Simple Syrup
Makes 1½ cups
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 3 large fresh mint leaves
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, bring all ingredients to a boil over high heat. Mash berries with a potato masher, and boil until thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat, and strain into a jar with a tight-fitting lid, discarding solids. Refrigerate for up to 6 weeks.
Sugared Blueberries
Makes 1 cup
Ingredients
- 1 egg white
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 cup sparkling sugar
Instructions
- In a small bowl, lightly beat egg white until foamy. Toss blueberries in egg white; toss in sparkling sugar. Spread in a single layer on parchment paper, and let dry.
