Preheat oven to 425°. Position rack in lower third of oven. Grease the wells of a 6-well popover pan with butter.
In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, orange zest, and salt. Whisk in flour until combined and no flour streaks remain. Whisk in melted butter. Divide batter evenly among prepared wells, about ½ cup each. Top each well with 1 teaspoon sliced almonds.
Bake for 15 minutes without opening the oven door. Reduce oven temperature to 350°, and continue to bake until popovers are golden, 10 to 15 minutes more. Serve immediately with Orange Butter.
Notes
Kitchen Tip If you don’t have a popover pan, use a muffin pan. Fill the wells three-fourths of the way full with batter. Bake at 425° for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°, and bake until golden, 10 to 15 minutes more. Serve immediately.
