Traditional Peach Cobbler

Makes 8 Servings
Ingredients
  • 5 cups sliced fresh peaches or 2 (20-ounce) packages frozen sliced peaches, thawed
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar, divided
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon white sparkling sugar
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°. Coat a 2½-quart baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Place peaches in prepared dish. Sprinkle with 1 cup granulated sugar, ¼ cup flour, and extract; stir to combine.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together remaining ½ cup granulated sugar, remaining 1¼ cups flour, baking powder, and salt. Using a fork or pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add cream, stirring gently until a dough forms.
  4. Drop dough by heaping tablespoonfuls evenly over peach mixture. Sprinkle with sparkling sugar.
  5. Bake until browned and bubbly, 40 to 45 minutes, covering with foil as needed to prevent over browning. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving
