Creamy Smoked Cheddar Grits
Makes about 6 servings
Ingredients
- 6 cups water
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1½ cups stone-ground grits
- 6 ounces smoked Cheddar cheese, shredded
- ⅓ cup heavy whipping cream
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce, or to taste
- Butter, to serve
Instructions
- In a medium cast-iron Dutch oven or large saucepan, bring 6 cups water, salt, and pepper to a boil over medium-high heat. Slowly add grits, whisking constantly. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, whisking occasionally, until tender, 40 to 45 minutes (partially cover, if necessary). Add cheese, cream, butter, and hot sauce, stirring until smooth. Serve with butter.
