Feeding the Family
When Linda married her husband, Frank, her journey to become one of the region’s best cooks began, which she freely admits came with plenty of trial and error. Now, Linda is the matriarch of her family, keeping everyone well fed any chance she gets.
“I love my taco soup and Mexican cornbread,” she says. “But my husband thinks my coleslaw is the best. My daughter Cathy has to have a pan of lasagna for her birthday every year, and [for] my youngest daughter, Elizabeth, my oatmeal cake is her favorite. You talk to a hundred people, and each one will tell you something different that they like.” It was Linda’s beloved son, who tragically passed away nine years ago, who first encouraged her to enter into a fair competition, and no one ever could have predicted what would come of it three decades later.
